Dover, DE – The Delaware Department of Correction (DOC) invites members of the public to join a free informational “DOC Insider Series” webinar on Monday, July 21 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., with a focus on how individuals earn “good time” credit while under DOC supervisionThe DOC Insider Series provides members of the public with a look inside Delaware’s correctional programs, practices, and policies through live informational presentations and interactive question and answer sessions with Department of Correction leaders.

DOC’s July 21 webinar features a review and discussion of the types of good time, how it can be earned, how good time is applied to an individual’s sentence, and loss of good time.  Good time, which is established in State law, has been shown to incentivize positive behavior, encourage and demonstrate a commitment to rehabilitation, encourage participation in evidence-based therapeutic, treatment, and training programs, foster a safer prison environment, and support the potential for reduced recidivism.  With these goals and outcomes in mind, the Delaware Department of Correction supports use of good time, and in 2021 the DOC strongly endorsed Senate Bill 158, passed unanimously by the General Assembly, which enhanced the incentive to participate in treatment programs and productive work by increasing the number of good time credits available to be earned each year and providing for more prison-based work opportunities for incarcerated individuals.

The July 21 DOC Insider Series Webinar: “Good Time” is facilitated by the Department of Correction Office of Planning, Research and Reentry and is presented by Chief of Planning, Research, and Reentry Jessica Cline and DOC Correctional Project Manager Thomas Aiello.

“The Department of Correction is committed to dialogue and engagement with community members and criminal justice stakeholders and creating opportunities to provide a look inside our correctional system,” said Department of Correction Commissioner Terra Taylor.  “Please join us on July 21 to learn how Good Time supports rehabilitation and safety and helps our State drive reentry success.”
